Suits
Short men's suits and small men's suits are the cornerstone of the Jimmy Au Collection. Mr. Au believes the most important item in a man's wardrobe is his suit. It should be of the highest quality one can afford and made to be the best fitting garment in his closet. It is here where most short men struggle to find a quality fitting suit in their size. It is also here where Mr. Au finds his strengths. Having fit jockeys almost exclusively for a better part of ten years from 1964 to 1974, Mr. Au had gained a great deal of experience fitting short and small men. Add to that his retail experience in fitting short and small men from 1975 to today and you have someone who has fitted more short men in suits in any given year he's been in business than most tailors or designers will have done in a career. It is this experience that Mr. Au has used to design his current suit collection. Suit coats are proportionately designed to fit properly, and styled most subtley to accentuate increased height. Suit pants are proportionately designed in a short rise to allow increased mobility without excessive fabric and subtley styled to elongate your legs.
Rather than a sizing and patternmaking afterthought from a designer using a 5'11" fit model whose total intent is to fit taller men, Mr. Au begins his design and development process using a 5'4" model. He scales up to 5'8" and down to 5'2". Mr. Au himself is 5'3". A suit designed for a 5'11" man cannot be scaled down to fit a 5'4" man properly. Most manufacturers do not have the experience to properly make the fit. Suits are already rarely scaled down properly to fit a 5'7" man. Rather than being a second class citizen in the fashion world, Jimmy Au puts the shorter man first and foremost. Mr. Au's suit collection consists of suits for men 5'2" to 5"5" and suits for men 5'5" to 5'8". In a world where sizing a suit designed for a man 5'8" to 6'0" is called a "regular", Mr. Au's suits would be called "extra short" and "short", respectively. However, in Mr. Au's world his extra short suit for men 5'2" to 5'5" would more accurately be called his "regular" becausethat's where he begins, and his short size suit for men 5'5" to 5'8" a "long". Mr. Au does not claim his suit designed for a man 5'2" to 5'5" can be scaled up to fit a 5'11" man. His design isn't intended for it. This is why we believe Jimmy Au has the best fitting suits available in the world for short men.
